Hi, We had made a request of IBM and got some great support from the folks in Silicon Valley Labs to provide VSCR for large development LPARs running many copies of DB2.
APAR PK57909 CSA REDUCTION OF SSI HELPER ROUTINES USED FOR ONLINE FORMAT OF DUMPS is closed with a PTF available for DB2 V9. A USERMOD is available to make the same change in V8 contact Level-2 if interested. We are still running DB2 V8 with the USERMOD and have gotten significant relief in below the line CSA > 200K on some LPARs. You may want to talk to your DB2 folks if this might be useful to you. IBM is very aware of VSCR concerns and help is going to have to come from the subsystems as well as the operating system. LOCAL FIX: N/A PROBLEM SUMMARY: **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: ALL DB2 z/OS users using very many DB2s on * * a single LPAR * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CSA is being used to load modules that * * are producing incorrect online dump * * formatting * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** The SSI helper routines are using CSA ( 24 bit) storage. This can cause a lot of CSA to be used if there are many started DB2s on the LPAR. It would be approximately 19K * number of DB2s. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: In order to reduce the CSA (24 bit) footprint these formatting SSI helper routines are being removed. The formatting provides no added value currently TEMPORARY FIX: ==================== This email/fax message is for the sole use of the intended recipient(s) and may contain confidential and privileged information.
