Hi,
We are in the process of implementing IMS Version 10.
There is some significant VSCR relief in IMS Version.
IMS Version 10 provides virtual storage constraint relief (VSCR) in the
following areas:
Database resource adapter enhancement. IMS can now allocate the PCB list
that the DRA passes to applications in 31-bit addressable storage. For
more information, see Database resource adapter (DRA) enhancement.
Fast Path buffer pool enhancement. The default allocation for Fast Path
buffer pools used in FDBR regions is changed from extended common
service area (ECSA) to extended private storage. For more information,
see Fast Database Recovery (FDBR) region enhancement.
General storage use. Several IMS modules that used to reside in 24-bit
common storage now reside in 31-bit common storage and other modules
that used to reside in 31-bit common storage now reside in 31-bit
private storage.
We found that we actually saw growth in the ECSA footprint.
APAR PK71583 was taken for this. If you have removed Fast Path and
generate IMS without FPTRL to get VSCR you will want this APAR. We had
previously converted all Fast Path to HALDB and had removed Fast Path
from the IMS SYSGEN to get VSCR.

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
With IMS releases prior to IMS V10, when Fast Path support was
not included in the SYSGEN, DBFSCD0x would not be included in
module DFSBLK0x. In this case, Fast Path fields in the IMS SCD,
such as SCDESCDQ, would contain zero for a non-Fast Path system
and DFSPLPP0 (CTL, MODULE PRELOAD, PROCLIB PROCESSOR) would not
load Fast Path modules from DBFIIN30.
.
Starting with IMS V10, DBFSCD0X is always included in module
DFSBLK0X. Even with the parameter specification of FP=N and
a COLD Start of IMS, SCD field SCDESCDQ will not contain zero
so DFSPLPP0 will process the module load list contained in
DBFIIN30. This will load Fast Path modules for a system which
does not use Fast Path.
LOCAL FIX:
None.
