IBM's 2008 Master the Mainframe Contest is now accepting registrations.
This contest is open to all students (including high school students)
across the United States and Canada. [If you are outside the U.S. and
Canada, you may be able to join, but unfortunately IBM cannot award prizes
to you. Blame the legal profession and governments, please.] No prior
mainframe experience is necessary.

Here's the Web site for more details and to sign up:

Prizes? Yes, this year's extra-fabulous prizes include:

* Exclusive and ultra-fashionable "Master the Mainframe" t-shirts
* $100 pre-paid debit cards, backed by the full faith and credit of the
debit card company
* MSI Wind sub-notebook computers running Linux
* Expense-paid trips to IBM's System z research and development center in
exciting (yes, really) Poughkeepsie, New York, U.S.A.

In addition, many contest participants, particularly the more energetic and
enthusiastic ones, often receive employment offers from the world's finest
companies and governments. (If you are a potential employer, there's a Web
link for you at the Contest page.) No promises, but let's just say joining
the contest doesn't hurt.

The contest begins October 1, 2008, so please register right away so you
can get a fast start. You can take until December 29, 2008, to try to
complete all three parts of the contest. The three parts feature hands-on
exercises working with a real System z mainframe, just like the one (or
more than one) that so many businesses and governments rely on. Each fun
exercise gets progressively more difficult. But if you master the
mainframe, perhaps you will join a few other talented students on a trip to
Poughkeepsie -- and possible job offers.

So if you or your colleagues know any students, or you are one, then please
spread the word and sign up for the 2008 Master the Mainframe Contest
today. Good luck!
