Karl,

If you download DAF (Dataset Audit Facility) from CBTTAPE.org, you will find
out exactly what is happenning to your file. Without knowing more about your
shop, we would just be speculating.

Looks like the file is initially allocated to an overflow volume which is
subsequently cleared of data without regard to source space allocations.
End of speculation.

Subject: Space problem

Hi

Can anyone please help on this one.
I have a user who allocates a file with CYL,(100,100)). The file then gets
closed and opened 780 odd times and data is added to it with each open. He
has tried it with different file names. The SMS DATACLASS and STORAGE
CLASS do not allow for space to be released and force the allocation to be
one a single volume. Some where during all this space is been release because
the step failes with an SB37. The file has changed to CYL,(1,1)) and is in 16
extents. When allowing the file to have multi volume access it works, but
changes to CYL,(1,1)) and ends up been in 39 extents.
My question is this, is SMS releasing the space or MVS or the program?

Kind Regards
Karl Abrahams
