As Shane noted, I went a bit over the top, an excess I blame on the pall of
wildfire smoke hanging over the Los Angeles basin.
On the other hand, I maintain that the recent rechristening of IBM
mirroring software was influenced by inhalation of some other kind of
smoke. The result is neither fetching nor useful.
If the original poster was wondering about changing over from 'XRC' to
'PPRC', I apologize for the digression. The two technologies remain vastly
different despite the mingling/mangling of terminology. We chose 'XRC' ten
years ago for two main reasons:
-- The distance (about 120 KM) did not bode well for any synchronous
solution
-- We needed consistent data integrity across multiple DASD subsystems
'XRC' satisfied both requirements. We might be able to convert today what
with DWDM and improvements to 'PPRC', but we don't see any compelling
reason.
