To answer a few questions... This is a VSAM dataset on disk.
B90311 is the volser of an SMS volume. The 3.4 screen is the ISPF option P.3.4 data set list utility in our shop. I am not sure how the =3.4 lookup works when the master catalog has an alias and a dataset that would qualify to use the alias is cataloged in the master. Apparently it lists the dataset cataloged in the master. In my original post you will see that I have used the catalog parameter on my IDCAMS DELETE. I am still trying to figure out how to delete this dataset without deleting my alias.
