I once canceled a job step with about 1,000 active subtasks, a job step with the maximum allowable number of DD statements (about 1,700 at the time), and a program that was nothing but an SVC 12 (which caused an infinite loop of creating SVRBs). In each case, it took 10 or 15 minutes for the cancel function to complete normally. I probably added the DUMP option on all those CANCELs. The Large System Effect will get you every time you mess around with a huge number or amount of resources.
