We use NFS in production, but to connect with AIX for our SAP LPARs (only the back end DB2 is on z/OS). I set up SMB for just the z/OS group to use because at times we've had trouble getting space on the SAN (or whatever... depends) for a windows network share between our folks here in the Chicago area and the folks in L.A. Without knowing more about your requirements, it's hard to make a recommendation.
