Bob's passing is quite sad. He will be missed.
I just received a dump that I assume is in IPCS format and I don't have a clue, well a little, how to process this.
Is there anywhere I can find out the job stream etc. for the analysis on ths
dataset. It's been a long time since working with ZOS dumps, as I'm working in
the VSE world now. I need to find out what the dd name for input is and maybe
some options for the dump analysis. It's supposedy a loop, and I wrote the
programs for the
most part so I'm not totally in the dark, but/..... If someone could help me
with this, I would be very grateful.
Too bad you weren't at SHARE in Austin. Evan Haruta gave two excellent
IPCS presentations. The first, entitled, "z/OS Debugging: IPCS Bag of
Tricks," was a very well attended stand-up presentation with slides etc.
The second, co-presented with John Shebey and entitled "z/OS Basics:
Introduction to IPCS Hands-on Lab," was an opportunity for attendees to
interact with IPCS using a real dump in a real TSO/E session on the
SHARE LPAR.
My advice would be to use IPCS interactively. Your expectations are
probably unrealistic if you think you'll know, in advance, everything
that you'll need to format in a batch job to help you figure out the
issue. And, "printing" dumps means you'll be forced to use some sort of
BROWSE/EDIT function to dig through your control blocks after they've
been formatted. That's as bad as trying to use SYSUDUMP to solve an
issue! It's much more efficient and effective to "poke" through the dump
using IPCS interactive facilities all the way through the debugging process.
