We are looking into consolidating three data centers into one.
We would like to keep our sysplexes separate for the most part, at least
in the beginning, due to having different security packages, different
layouts, and strategies.
We would however like to share a tape silo, tape drives, and the CDS
that controls the tapes, but keep the rest of our XCF structures
separate.
Sharing STK silo across sysplexes is quite easy to do.
1. Any system that use tapes should have SMC "agent" installed.
2. Those agents should connect to HSC "server". The connection can be
done via TCP/IP, so sysplex boundaries are simply irrelevant.
3. For redundancy you should have more than one HSC server. Another
server can be on the same sysplex or (preferrably) other sysplex. HSCs
can talk one to each other using LMU - AFAIK that's preferred method.
If you plan to share CDS volumes across sysplex boudaries you should not
convert RESERVEs. As an alernative you can use MII.
How difficult would it be, or can it even be done, setting up a sysplex
with sort of sub-sysplexes?
That's another story. In my opinion there is no thing like sub-sysplex.
Of course devile is in the details, it depends how we define
"sub-sysplex", etc.
