We have a 2-site sysplex with minimal shared DASD (Couple Datasets, PARMLIB, OMVS Root). The non-shared DASD is PPRC mirrored between buildings. The shared DASD is not.
We spread our CDS' across both sites such that if we lost a site, the sysplex will survive. We have a backup shared PARMLIB such that we can SETLOAD 00,PARMLIB= on our surviving systems and IPL our recovery instances in the surviving site with the alternate shared PARMLIB. Our one point of failure is the Sysplex Root. We placed this dataset in the building we thought was non-volatile (dual power, etc.) only to find out later, it isn't really non-volatile. We have a switchover at the end of April so we can upgrade this site. I'm doing some research and testing around OMVS Sysplex root recovery, but I'm hoping to shorten the learning curve here. Are any of the "bronzeplex" shops out there multisite? If so, how do you deal with planned or unplanned outages and moving or recovering the OMVS Sysplex Root? If it matters, we are z10 (one in each building), CF Level 15 (one in each building), and z/OS 1.8 at about RSU0812.
