(Somewhat motivated by the recent "Optimal" thread.) How do I tell Allocation (JCL DD or SVC 99) that I want to allocate 1,000,000 bytes of DASD space with SDB choosing the blocksize?
I want to be independent of DASD geometry. Things that "will never change" sometimes do. Reading the recent wailing about the damage that would result if the number of tracks/cylinder changed, it occurs to me that the only code I have ever written that was sensitive to geometry was SPACE parameters for allocation.
