Been a while since I did stand alone DSS restores. I see that DSS now has a FILE parameter which can specify the file number from the beginning of the tape. I would assume the number is tape marks, ie with standard label tape file 1 would be FILE(2). Does anyone know, rather than guess like I did? Additionally does anyone know if DSS rewinds the tape before/after a RESTORE, so that FILE would be from the start of the tape or does it try to keep track of where it's at? I assume the best thing will be to use the TAPECNTL directive to be sure.
