I have attended a few Linux.conf.au - these are (usually) held in precisely that (Southern) timeframe. Late January in our case. Dorms are available, as are lecture halls. Works a treat, and keeps the costs down. May be more acceptable to the Linux "geeks" than MVS "grey-beards". I'm happy to turn up, but must admit I stay at commercial hostelries rather than the dorms.
