1) You're going to eventually get each PTF. Why wait?
Not necessarily true: "Institutional paranoia", for want of a better
term. For example, the continuing saga of APAR -> PTF -> PE for
Catalog
Auto-tune is not exactly a confidence-builder. :-) There's still a
noticeable aversion to applying any PTFs without which the software
simply will not run.
You will eventually 'get' every PTF, you can choose any industrial
process
or mental disorder to justify which ones to APPLY and when. <g>
Well, in the broader sense, yes, we will eventually "get" all the z/OS
1.9 (and 1.10) PTFs that are incorporated into 1.11 when we upgrade next
year...... :-)
Not to beat a dead horse, but I want to clarify something that I think
is often misunderstood:
Obtaining a PTF is not at all the same as applying a PTF.
That is, you can safely obtain and RECEIVE all available PTFs into your
global zone and SMPPTS (using RECEIVE ORDER or any other mechanism)
without affecting which PTFs get applied to your target zone and
libraries. That is, you don't have to apply all PTFs that are received
-- the APPLY command has plenty of selection options to let you pick and
choose which PTFs to apply. Selecting by sourceid is an excellent option.
