Jack, Are you at the current release level (r12)? There was maintenance applied to reduce CPU usage for normal (non-compression) usage. If you use compression (to help reduce the amount of cache used), that does use CPU. Of course, the compression CPU usage can be offloaded to a zIIP if you have one available.
