Are you at the current release level (r12)? There was maintenance applied to
reduce CPU usage for normal (non-compression) usage. If you use compression
(to help reduce the amount of cache used), that does use CPU. Of course, the
compression CPU usage can be offloaded to a zIIP if you have one available.

Since Russell brought it up, I'd like to inquire if users have measured
how much CA Vtape cost in cycles. Although we're a small uniprocessor when
Vtape activity gets going (activity rate is in the low 100/sec) , we lose
about 25% of our processor to Vtape. Is that the kind of numbers that
others are seeing? I know YMMV but just fishing for some comparisons.
