Steve, good luck. I've been at it for months, finally implemented two weeks ago. Still have a lot of problems with return code processing.
Be up to date on maintenance. As in, check to see what PTFs came out TODAY. Be sure to load test thoroughly. What works fine on your testplex may very well fail in production. I opened over two dozen issues with CA while testing. Most were fixed by PTF, got a couple doc updates out of it. CA support has been very good. Looks like I've finally gotten to Level 1, though. Each problem I bring up, they want a TON of doc before even looking at things. :-) Good luck.
