In fact, I've seen that 2nd set of characters refered to as "curley
brackets" far more often than "braces".
The characters I see in Steve's message are probably the ones he
intended, but that, of course, depends on the code page I'm using.
And if you are entering the characters on a keyboard, keyboard
mapping will also add its own twists. The keyboard map and the
display's codepage may not work well together.
