The cisco routers with CIP interfaces are being discontinued. I doubt you could purchase a new one. If OSPF is involved, I have experienced timeouts when CPU is busy during large file transfers which in turn cause SNA portion of the CIP fail due to timeout (MIH). May be a OSA card in future could resolve it. For now, you could move the large ftp to a different window or throttle down FTP using WLM during that window.
