Be careful what you wish for.   :-)        

Actually other than performance - which may (or may not) only be noticeably 
worse on
more "SMPPTS intensive" functions like RECEIVE, that sounds like a pretty good 
idea.  
Even though a PDSE can be bigger than 64K tracks, it still is limited to a 
single volume
and zFS (or HFS) file systems aren't.
