G'Day,
I am trying to change the status of a tape which went scratch. I am not very
familiar with TLMS. Would anybody have a utility to do this? What I am trying
to do is to change the status from SCRATCH to ACTIVE or LIVE because we want to
keep the tape for auditing purposes (yes, the auditiors are breathing down my
back).
Thanks in advance.
TLMS has its own batch utility and on-line interfaces, either of which
can be used to make modification to the TLMS catalog fields describing
the tape. Whoever is defined as a TLMS administrator (hopefully someone
in Operations and perhaps also someone in System Programming TLMS
support) should have the necessary authorities in the on-line interfaces
and batch interfaces and should also know how to do this. The reference
manuals should at least steer you in the right direction. Ordinary
users or application programmers should not normally have the authority
to make such changes, as this could easily subvert installation standards.
Assuming the tape was not manually scratched, you will probably have to
do more than just change SCRATCH status from YES to NO. It may also be
necessary to modify the rule controlling scratch criteria to something
like "manual control", so that it doesn't just scratch again on the next
tape management cycle.
