1. Use real carts and drives, like TS1140 or T10000
2. Manage your data. You should have started managing data 10+ years ago.
3. Simply recycle. Sleep well.
The crucial point is 2. If you have no idea what data you have on your
tapes - you're lost. If you do, then the point is to choose proper tool.
And do it in smart way, that means wait until data is expired, which
would save a lot of data transfers.
BTW: BTDT. 25000+ carts. No problems occured. Of course point 2 was the key.

Oh I forgot, another approach:
Write an article, put a lot of "trendy issues" like:
- storage trends,
- floor space,
- power & cooling shortages,
- global economy, rising markets,
exclude DVD (Blue Ray?) as target medium,
then hire guys, who will do that for you.
Nobody would ask why didn't you make it yourself, there is a project,
there is article - it has to be a challenge!
