Most cell towers have UPS's with backup generators. I have fellow employees that are saying they are now losing service. My guess is that the generators are running out of fuel and various sites are dropping off because of that. In defense of all the companies, you plan for the bad case, or worse, but how do you plan for a total disaster?
I am located in Texas, but my daughter has friends in northern New Jersey that planned ahead and have generators for their homes, but now they can't get any more fuel for them so they are dropping off. If things get back to any form of normal in less than a week, it will be a miracle. For some places it will be measured in months, lots of months.
