Hi Folks,

There are two programs on the CBT Tape that can change SL to NL. These are: COPYSLNL which is a variant of the COPYFILE program, that is on File 229. And COPYMODS from CBT Tape File 229 with PARM or SYSIN option of STRIP can do it too. This is for an ENTIRE TAPE, with many files on it.

Further, if, when you copied an SL tape to NL with COPYMODS using PARM=STRIP, and you also dumped the images of all the labels using PARM=LABLDUMP at the same time, you can then RECONVERT the NL tape back to an SL tape, by sandwiching the dumped labels back, using the PARM=LABADDIN option of COPYMODS. So you can go SL to NL, and then NL to SL for an entire tape, with many files. Further, if you want to change some of the labels in the meanwhile, you can edit the dumped labels before splicing them back on the NL tape using a PARM or SYSIN of LABADDIN under COPYMODS. Cool?

The difference between how COPYSLNL strips the labels and how COPYMODS with PARM of STRIP strips the labels is a fundamental difference. COPYSLNL does it by COUNTING files, assuming that Files 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 etc., are labels, because of their position on the tape. COPYMODS with the STRIP option does it by DETECTING the labels themselves, as being labels, and NOT copying them. Therefore, a messed up SL tape with labels in the wrong place, can be cleaned up using COPYMODS with the STRIP option.

    Do things NICELY. IEBGENER, bah!

All the best of everything to you and your families..........

Sincerely, Sam
