And of course if IBM hadn't closed-sourced its code,  learning would have been 
significantly easier for (particularly) late arrivals.
My concern (as a mug end-user) is more that we have no way of ascertaining the 
competence of the authors of the code we are invariably exhorted must be 
installed into authorised libraries.
I see so many side-effects and potential exposures it just doesn't sit well.
