Read the prologue, the comments prefixed to the IARST64 macro definition itself. Doing so will, I suspect, answer most or all of your questions.
Try to get into the habit of reading these prologues. They treat topics in a more advanced fashion and they assume more knowledgeability than do some of the manuals, which are preoccupied with brevity; but they are more current and reliable.
