Another option is a Cisco 7200 series router with Cisco PA-1C-P parallel channel adapter. It has to be the PA-1C-P, though, not the PA-1C-E (ESCON) or successors. Here's one seller with the PA-1C-P listed for $141.81 (sans router):
http://www.tamayatech.com/parts.php?g=PA1CP A suitable used Cisco 7200 series router with Ethernet seems to start at about the same price. I don't see a particularly good price on a router with the adapter already installed, though. I think a Cisco 7201 router would be the smallest form factor that would work (1U), but it's rather pricey. A Cisco 7204 is probably the best used value, although it's somewhat bulkier. These routers are modular, so be careful you're getting the bits you need. I'm not 100% sure whether the support for the PA-1C-P is included in the base Cisco IOP software (which is downloadable) or not. Installation and configuration details for the PA-1C-P port adapter are available here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/port_adapters/install_upgrade/other/pa-1c-p_parallel_channel_install_config/6012_01.html Cisco discontinued PA-1C-P new adapter sales in 2002. For what it's worth, Frank Whitten's e-mail address ([email protected]) is listed on Cisco's public Web site for the channel adapters here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2033/prod_brochure09186a0080091c4e.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy Sipples Consulting Enterprise IT Architect (Based in Singapore) E-Mail: [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
