Yes, indeed!
Just imagine: I mount the USB stick during a visit in remote location,
and then I can change USB stick content withut revisting the location!

I never used remote access to the HMC so I don't know if the import/export
functions will support a text transfer between the HMC (server) and your
workstation (client).

Because it does NOT. Did you ever try to use it?
Even Old OS/2-based version (1.xx) of HMC had limited access to HMC's disk.
A file on a memory stick on the workstation is just Q:\x.txt which
is no different to the transfer protocol than one on your hard drive
(C:\x.txt).
See above. There WAS a diffrenence. Big difference. C: could not be a
source of such file, while removable drive could be.
BTW: nowadays pathnames like X:\dir1\dir2\...\file1 are no longer valid.
Reason: HMC 2.xx are Linux based. Linux filesystem looks a little bit
differently.
I wonder if the HMC backup functions will support any destination other than
the local (to the HMC) CD/DVD drive.
