Indeed.  And I also like the last sentence of the paragraph you quote:

Application leaders should reassess the capabilities and quality of these platforms before leaving them."

I would suffix the clause "fairly and openly" to the final sentence.

Also, what's perhaps easy at 100 MIPS is much harder at 10000.
