Of course I'm not surprised that a specific utility is faster, but how much faster depends on lots of things that weren't stated - which I thought made the comparison more or less worthless. It reminds me of the discovery I made back in the 1980s, on a VM/CMS system, that one could copy a file more quickly using Xedit to load the file then write it elsewhere (with a macro governing that), than by using the CMS file copy command.
