No offense taken. You may find it far fetched but it's true. I'm cognizant to the fact that most folks on here only know ISPF and have no experience of using an IDE or text editor like vim or emacs. And that is the salient point of the OP. If you find yourself working on Linux then you should learn the tools of that platform. You may be pleasantly surprised by what you find.
If anybody want's to be adventurous and try out vim (neovim) my colleage has written a nerdtree plugin [1] that supports z/OS remote browsing using FTP and PDS data sets. It uses the z/OSMF REST API to submit jobs and retrieve spool output. There is also a JCL syntax highlighter [2].
