mc.ext can be configured to launch custom programs (or editors) for file extensions. Exiting and keeping the directory location...Do you have an alias set for mc? Depending on the distro and shell, it should be something like alias mc='. /usr/share/mc/bin/mc-wrapper.sh' To use that wrapper, use F10 to exit mc. Don’t enter “exit” on its prompt.
