years ago on an OS/390 LPAR we had what we called an 'attached processor' it was a VM box, and along with some JES and MVS MODS, a CTC connection to the VM box and OS/390 we were able to offload some applications to the VM processor, since we owned the processor and the VM was running a LOCAL supported version of VM, the application actually ran FREE, the I/O still happened on OS/390 but the processing of the code/data happened on VM, so long answer, sorry, I believe it can if the z/VM and z/OS are running one the same architecture, it would be an interesting test.
