Hello

We are in process of getting new virtual tape solution to replace an
existing one.

Solution is to get the channel connected to two ficon directors.and connect
them virtual tape.

So the question is instead of ficon director can we use the SAN switch ?

SAN switch is another name for director.
Usually bigger devices are called directors, while smaller (pizza box) are switches. Vast majority of devices come from single source: Brocade, which is now part of Broadcom. Logo on the chassis can be EMC, Dell, IBM, HP, etc. but it is still same device.
There is also Cisco equipment, but the marketshare is approx. 10-15%.

So, you have director or switch. Now you have to configure it to FICON. It can require change of internal software called FOS. Not every FOS version is FICON approved.

Of course someone has to work with the switch/director configuration, cabling, HCD, etc.
