Mark,

Are you looking for purchased software inventory or in-house-developed
inventory?

For in-house, we have found the XREF product extremely useful and functional,
and the developers are quick to respond to defects and enhancements. And
priced right.

This is a general question what do you use for software inventory - package,
ISPF, excel spreadsheet ....etc for Mainframe only.

Below is the type of inventory I am looking for.

This is what I found so far on the Internet : (This is a PDF document and looks
a lot better then what is displayed)

Mainframe Software Inventory List

Vendor/Desc. Product
Rel. Latest Version End Of Service
       Note

CA CA 1 Tape Management - MVS
                 12.6 12.6

CA 1 Tape Management (CA 1) is designed to simplify and unify the management
and protection of z/OS(r) tape data sets and volumes.

CA CA COMMON SERVICES - MVS 14.1

CA Common Services for z/OS (CCS) includes distributed services common to CA
Technologies implementations and solutions specific to z/OS. CCS provides a
common interface and event services to create multiple, unified resource
views. This z/OS hosted enterprise management architecture expands the choice of
what and where to manage, similar to how CCS works on Windows and UNIX
platforms. CCS also contains the essential components and functionality to
enable integrated management of z/OS.

CA CA Compress Data Compression for IMS - MVS
   5.2.5 5.2.7

CA Compress(tm) Data Compression for IMS is designed to minimize the direct
access storage device (DASD) space requirements for IMS(tm) databases and
compress files with minimal disruption, reduce your costs and simplify DASD
management. This IMS database management solution can also improve efficiency
by performing compression simulation for analysis purposes before actually
compressing an IMS database-a process that can achieve compression yields as
high as 70 to 80 percent.

CA CA DATACOM/AD MVS

In process of installing v15 on z/OS 2.1.

A reliable database repository with enterprise-wide, high-volume workload and
fault-tolerant capabilities. CA Datacom(r), and its family of rDBMS products,
provides you with that repository.

Etc.......

Thank You
