Hello list,

I'm having a mental midget moment. I have an IBM DS array that is a PPRC
source to a second array. Some volumes are being replicated to the remote site
and others are not. I am doing dataset level flashcopy through DF/DSS COPY
commands from one SMS storage group to another on the local array. The
flashcopy works if the target volumes are not being replicated through the PPRC
links but if the target volumes are PPRC source I get

The IGD17268I at the end of the block says that I can't use F/C to these
volumes because they're PPRC primary volumes.

So 2 questions come to mind. First, I have this niggling somewhere in the back
of my mind that sometime in the recent past IBM relaxed the rule that a PPRC
primary volume couldn't be a F/C target for datasets. Is this true, and if so
what do I need to do in order to start being able to use a PPRC primary volume
as a flashcopy target?

Second, if this is still not possible, is there some way around this
limitation, i.e. suspend the PPRC while the flashcopy is running then
reactivate the PPRC link? Will something like this work and/or is there some
other way of making this happen?

Thanks,

Rex
