Delete noscratch does work, remember to point to the catalog you want to remove
the entry from
delete 'sys1.vvds.vxxxx' - noscratch - catalog('catalog.name')
I do this just in to be sure

We found dozens of VVDS references in our catalogs for which the volumes
no longer exist.
The manual seems to suggest you must create an empty volume and VVDS and
DEFINE RECATALOG the VVDS in order to permanently delete/uncatalog it.
That seems like an inordinate amount of work, particularly since we have
so many of them.
Is there no supported utility or freeware tool that can get rid of this
detritus?
