Did you ask him what a mail server was? That nomenclature goes back to the ARPA 
network.

I once had a co-worker, a VM partisan, who believed that so fervently
that I needed to argue with him that "server" also (and perhaps originally)
meant a process on separate dedicated hardware.  He insisted that VM/370
invented servers.
