I've only had 2 mainframe jobs. The first was from 1983 to 2013 when
the company began outsourcing virtually everyone in IT. I got another
within a month but for about 2 weeks things were up in the air. During
that time I remember driving to the post office and getting stuck behind
a lot of traffic and complaining to myself. Then I thought... Hey, why
complain? I have nothing else to do anyway. So I'm looking forward to
that again.

Boy, ~I~ sure have. I'm pretty sure I've been fired from more employment gigs
than I've left voluntarily. (I'm not counting contract gigs, which of course
always end eventually in the client sending you home.)
I don't think I have any records indicating what's the longest I've been
unemployed. Nine months, maybe?
