Fundi, now Rocket, bought a licence for MFNetdisk. Dave Crayford might know

We used it up for HSM ML2 until we purchased a second hand ATL. It was a very innovative product and worked well. However, like all software it had bugs and when they surfaced it was quite nasty. It's my understanding that Shai open sourced MFNetDisk or at least made it free with no support.

I used the free version for a while, it was a great concept.

Let's not forget Shai Hess's MFNetDisk. I don't think it's available
anymore.
But, I used it extensively from 2010 to 2016.

Yes and no.
1. Yes, you can configure your NAS as NFS (I hope so) and connect z/OS to
NFS server. However it has nothing to do with DFSMShsm.
2. Yes, you can send your HSM data outside. But that require additional
software like current Model9 or old (maybe still in use?) VTF clone - a
software which emulated tapes on DASD. I vaguely remember some (EMC?)
product which directed HSM data stream to OSA card and finally some
non-mainframe disk array. Note: I'm NOT talking about DLm or former
BusTech. It was before EMC acquired BusTech.
