Timothy, I guess the answer to the EOS question is "it depends". It depends on what model of the DS8884 you're running. Here's a snippet from a sales manual entry dated November 23, 2021.

The 98B and 98E are expansion units and I'm guessing IBM replaced the 980 and 981 with refreshed models within the first year after releasing the originals. I'm not going to spend any time researching what I could have replaced my 980 with 5 years ago. The IBM DS8884 was only Withdrawn from Marketing on June 30, 2020, and some of them (the 2834-984 model) included 4 years of warranty service, i.e. warranty coverage ending as late as mid-2024.
