"A Timer-sharing display terminal session manager", J. M. McCrossin, R. P. O'Hara, L. R. Koster, IBM Systems Journal 17, Number 3, 1978 pp. 260-275 says it started as Research Display Facility at the T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights.
