I would think that they chose the Swahili word deliberately.

Someone probably went looking at multi-language words for Open and that one
jumped out.

A good friend retired from the Greenwich Observatory and started a business
selling telescopes.

He called his business Green Witch. This is a very in joke name. Some older
Brits might know the joke from the radio show, Ï'm sorry I'll read that
again".
