My recollection is that FORMAC was in the 1960s and was FORTRAN based, but memory is the 2nd thing to go. I can't remember the 1st.

That brings back memories of stuff I did early in my career. I remember using IBM's FORMAC compiler (or pre-processor) sometime in the mid 70s (I think). IIRC, it generated PL/1 code. I can't remember what I did but I didn't spend a lot of time on it.
