To be fair, IBM does support ANSI REXX stream I/O within a Unix shell script.

II had used IEEE standard I/O which Borland shunned.

Kinida like IBM Rexx vs. ANSI standard Rexx I/O.

I/O may be hard, but vendors are too eager to shirk it.
