I believe there is value in the history. Especially the "why" and "how" to various questions.
If listserv supports it, I'd advocate for topics on a singular mailing list. -- I've done this with Mailman a number of times. Well, more precisely, Mailman and mail filters that skimmed for a large list of keywords to specify the topics for a message (if not already done so).
