If you talk to CA (Broadcom), they will tell you that they don't fully support PDS/e in a sysplex environment. I spent a long time dealing with them for 5 smaller sites, and the end result is that all 5 could not afford to add a specialty processor to handle GRS so they purchased (very cheap) FICON cards and I set up Ficon CTC's for them. The cost for MIM for 1 year paid for the cards at each site, and GRS is much faster.
If you already have the CP's to handle this stuff, then you don't need the cards (or MIM). GRS overhead is extremely low (compared to MIM).
