On Dallas IIC from my z/VM control userid I issued and got:
  send etpgabc \cp sleep
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 16:33:32
qsleep etpgabc
Ready; T=0.01/0.01 16:33:51

What tells me if the guest z/OS system is actually asleep or have I done something wrong?

Back in the day, I used to check this by attempting to dial to a local 3270 device on the virtual machine. If it was asleep, my dial session would be unresponsive.
