I remeber Bolero played on the 355 RAMAC of a 650 and The Halls of Montezuma played on the 1403 of a 1401. The CDC 3600 gated three bits of the accumulator, and I've heard of that being used for music.
I don't believe that you could damage a 1403 by playing music. I've heard of broken chains, but only with output specifically designed to cause a synch check and a sound like all of the demons of Hell yelling at the same time. We had better print quality on a 3211 than on our 1403N1s when I was at the Technion. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.)
