Long ago, in a nearby galaxy, I used descriptive names for registers.  I got over it after having to deal with a program that had 36 different register equates.  That program was completely incomprehensible.

You should think not only of what works for you when writing it, but as they say, "Always code as if the guy who ends up maintaining your code will be a violent psychopath who /knows where you live/.."  (You can google that for yourself and get 100K hits.)
